The annual retreat of the University of Haifa imaging forum was held (in person!) on June 22nd at Kibbutz Dalya.
At the retreat, the newly-appointed rector of the University, Prof. Gur Alroey, greeted the members of the forum. Guest lectures were given by Dr. Yoed Kenett of the Technion and Prof. Roy Mukamel of Tel-Aviv University. A symposium was held on the contribution of neuroimaging to the understanding of recovery from brain damage (Dr. Tal Krasovsky, Dr. Smadar Ovadia-Caro and Dr. Michal Kafri) and talks were given by forum members: Dr. Assaf Kron, Dr. Amit Yashar and Dr. Liat Helpman.
On March 17, 2021 an article was published in Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper about the Research of Prof. Tami Katzir, Dr. Shelley Shaul and Dr. Orly Lipka from the Edmond J. Safra brain research Center for the study of learning disabilities. The study examined the effects of the COVID-19 on the acquisition of the milestones in reading among second-graders through reading and comprehension fluency tests. The findings of the study showed that distance learning widened the gaps between second graders from high socioeconomic status who were significantly more successful compared to students from low socioeconomic status . Although a gap in these abilities can be seen even before the outbreak of the corona, the study shows that the epidemic has enhanced the gap significantly and doubled it compared to the previous

On February 2020, Prof. Tami Katzir was invited to present at a prestigious workshop led by Pope Francis on Education the Global Impact. This workshop included leading world figures in Economics, Immigration, and Education. Prof. Katzir presented her brain-based and fieldwork also funded by the Edmond J. Safra Brain Reaserch Center with great pride. Her talk generated great interest and wish for collaborations around intervention in third and first world countries.
On March 2020, EGDAL- The Israeli Association of Learning Disabilities Experts, together with the support of the Edmond J. Safra Brain Research Center for the Study Of Learning Disabilities , hosted the annual EGDAL conference in the subject of Learning disabilities in the Arabic language.This year conference was limited in terms of attendees in light of the Ministry of Health’s directives concerning the Corona virus restrictions. The responses were very enthusiastic by those present. One of the comments was: “The conference was excellent, the research presented was up-to-date and significant, … On Women’s Day (the day the conference was held) we saw that all the researchers were women … It doesn’t surprise me” This year theme was preschool children: how to develop their reading skills and the impact of screens on young children’s brains. Doctoral dissertations were also presented in mathematics and language skills.
