Zvia's Legacy

Prof. Zvia Breznitz 1945-2014

Prof. Zvia Breznitz was the founder of the Edmond J. Safra Brain Research Center for the Study of Learning Disabilities and the center's first director between the years 2009-2014.

Prof. Breznitz’s discoveries and theoretical contributions to the field of learning disabilities and especially her focus on fluency in reading and its pivotal role in remediation have changed the way professionals deal with dyslexia and opened new windows to understanding the neuro-behavioral underpinnings of reading disabilities.

Her ground breaking research led to the discovery of the acceleration and asynchrony phenomena in dyslexia.
Prof. Breznitz, wife, mother, grandmother, muse, scientist, mentor, teacher, colleagu and friend is sorely missed by all those who knew her.
