Dr. Joy Benatov

Head of Laboratory: Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Lab

The Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Lab is dedicated to understanding and addressing the social-emotional processes that underlie depression and suicide risk, with a focus on youth and vulnerable populations. Our work integrates rigorous research with the development of interventions that can be implemented in schools and clinical settings.

Dr. Benatov is a Clinical Psychologist. She earned her B.Sc. in Brain Sciences from Tel Aviv University and went on to complete her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Bar-Ilan University. She conducted her post-doctoral training at Richman University.

Dr. Benatov has held several academic and clinical advisory roles across Israeli ministries and mental health institutions. She has served as a consultant for the Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Labor and Social Services, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Health, contributing to the national suicide prevention program. She also serves on the professional board of Sahar, an NGO that supports individuals in emotional crisis, and is currently a research fellow at Geha Mental Health Center. Dr. Benatov also serves as the national representative for Israel at the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP).
