Research Participation Requirements for Students

Overview

Students at the center have the opportunity to conduct research using SAFRA’s
longitudinal database. This rich and unique database, described on our website along
with recent studies and publications, tracks a large sample of Hebrew and Arabic-
speaking children from kindergarten through 6th grade. Working on this research
provides students access to an extensive database with linguistic, cognitive, emotional,
and systemic measures, enabling in-depth research and hands-on experience with
advanced research methodologies. However, there are specific requirements for
accessing this database.

Participation Requirements

Students are required to contribute 20-30 hours to research in one of the following
activities:

  • Working at Edmond J. Safra center
  • Data collection
  • Data coding
  • Data analysis

Activities are assigned according to the center’s requirements during data collection
periods.

Research Scholarship

Students who wish and are able to contribute a higher quota of research hours may be
eligible for a scholarship.

Accessing Data for Thesis

  1. Submit application to data committee – after thesis proposal approval
  2. Committee approval – and research coordinator signature confirming
    compliance with data collection requirements
  3. Receive access – to relevant research data

Recommendations for Data Requests

  • Up to 7 measures only
  • One research year maximum
  • Check for overlap – verify in the thesis database on SFARA website to ensure
    no overlap with ongoing research
