In an interview with “The Epoch Times,” Prof. Tami Katzir, head of the Edmond J. Safra Brain Research Center for the Study of Learning Disabilities, explained the advantages of reading from paper compared to digital reading.
She emphasized that screens increase the cognitive load on the brain through “divided attention” between understanding content and navigating text. They promote a “flattening effect” that leads to superficial scanning and weaker memory of details.
In contrast, the physical experience of a book helps create a “mental map” of the text, contributing to deeper understanding and better recall.
